Double Barrel Crossbow Medication System

Medi-Darts are designed to deliver intramuscular or subcutaneous injections to livestock without needing to restrain the animal. The specialized needle design keeps the dart in place until the medication is fully administered. Once the injection is complete, the patented ejection system pushes the needle out gently, reducing stress on the animal.

For the safety of both handlers and livestock, returns are not accepted on the Crossbow or Extension Syringe.

About the Medi-Dart Crossbow System

Medi-Dart has been an industry leader in field treatment tools since 1991. The Medi-Dart Crossbow—introduced in 1998—was developed in response to producer feedback and proven field technology. It allows producers to medicate large animals quickly, accurately, and with minimal stress.

With an effective treatment distance of 15 to 45 feet, producers can administer injections in pasture or pen environments without the need for chutes or restraint systems.

Important note:
The valve cannot fully open if the plunger is drawn back to the 10cc mark. Therefore, injections under 10cc cannot be given with this system.

Producers rely on the Medi-Dart Crossbow for conditions such as hoof rot, pinkeye, pneumonia, retained placenta, and more—making it a valuable part of any herd health program.

What’s Included in the Kit

  • Medi-Dart Crossbow

  • Two complete 30cc darts

  • Practice end

  • Two IM needles (#5 and #6)

  • Air pump

  • Two plastic wingnuts (MDCBWN 3/8” and MDEWN 1/2”)

Needle & Wingnut Improvements

Recent updates include:

IM Needle Options

  • #5 IM Needle

  • #6 IM Needle – designed for improved grip, especially for yearlings or fast-moving calves

    • Must be paired with the Half-Moon Pushrod (MDHPR) and correct wingnut

    • Sold in kits and as MDAKCBW/MDAKEW assemblies

These new needle systems have been tested extensively and have received strong positive feedback from producers.

Wingnut Differences

  • MDCBWN – 1/2" wings
Best for cows and bulls; provides extra leverage and strong ejection.

  • MDEWN – 3/8" wings
Ideal for fast-moving younger cattle; maintains better hold for smaller or shorter-duration injections.

Old-style needles can still be used but require the short connecting nut.

Current subcutaneous option available: #5 needle only.

Needle Longevity

With proper use:

  • Crossbow needles: approx. 30 uses

  • Extension syringe needles: approx. 50 uses

  • Needles can be resharpened with a file for extended life

  • Estimates exclude “misses” (trees, posts, etc.)
